Roxy the Rancor
Produced in conjunction with the 501st Legion, the world’s largest Star Wars costuming organization, Roxy has made appearances at events including Disney’s Star Wars Weekends, Star Wars Celebration and MegaCon, always attracting large crowds of fans eager for the rare photo opportunity to stand in the grasp of the mighty Roxy, armed only with a massive prop bone to defend themselves.
Mission: Despite her monstrous looks, Roxy is more heart than horror. As a big girl with a big heart, and Roxy is always looking for ways to give back to the community and is working to tackle the rampant problem of peer victimization. By partnering with anti-bullying activists like award-winning author and subject expert Carrie Goldman (whose own daughter was harrassed for being a girl that likes Star Wars), Roxy is taking a bite out of bullying!
Construction: The 700-pound, 17-foot-long replica Rancor (as seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi) was painstakingly sculpted by Rick Bohler and Pizzazz Scenic Contractors from nearly 2,000 cubic feet of expanded polystyrene foam graciously donated by Imperial Foam of Ormand Beach, Florida. The enormous size of the Rancor required careful planning with consideration for assembly and transportation—five people are needed to move the massive massive beast, which breaks down into six separate parts for shipping. Roxy’s structure is continually maintained and new additions to Roxy and her event environment are always in the works to make each appearance more exciting than the last.
