Space Alert

It's a cooperative team survival game. Players become crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of galaxy. The missions last just 10 real-time minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship.
On 2 CDs (or Scenario cards if you don't have a CD player available) are ten minute long soundtracks that represent central computer announcements about the presence of various threats. These vary from space battleships and interceptors to different interstellar monsters and abominations, asteroids or even intruders and malfunctions on the spaceship. Players have to agree who will take care of which task and coordinate their actions (moving around the ship, firing weapons, distributing energy, using battlebots to deal with intruders, launching guided missiles, etc.) in real time to defend the ship. Only a well-working team can survive 10 minutes and make the jump back to safety.

BattleLore

The world of BattleLore meshes history and fantasy together - putting players in command of an array of miniature troops on the battlefields of a Medieval Europe Uchronia at the outset of the Hundred Years War.
In this fantastical re-imagining of the Hundred Years War, French and English armies are supplemented with Goblins and Dwarves mercenaries and even some creatures like Giant Spider and Earth Elemental! Just as important as the armies you have, though, are the Lore Masters you choose to aid you: Wizards, Clerics, Warriors and Rogues can all aid you with unique powers and spells in ways role-playing gamers will find familiar.

Chaos in the Old World makes you a god. Each god’s distinctive powers and legion of followers grant you unique strengths and diabolical abilities with which to corrupt and enslave the Old World.

Khorne, the Blood God, the Skulltaker, lusts for death and battle.

Nurgle, the Plaguelord, the Father of Corruption, luxuriates in filth and disease.

Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways, the Great Conspirator, plots the fate of the universe.

Slaanesh, the Prince of Pleasure and Pain, the Lord of Temptations, lures even the most steadfast to his six deadly seductions.

Yet, as you and your fellow powers of Chaos seek domination by corruption and conquest, you must vie not only against each other, but also against the desperate denizens of the Old World who fight to banish you back to the maelstrom of the Realm of Chaos.

Chaos in the Old World features three ways to win, and gives you an unparalleled opportunity to reshape the world in your image. Every turn you corrupt the landscape, dominating its inhabitants, and battle with the depraved followers of rival gods. Each god has a unique deck of gifts and abilities, and can upgrade their followers into deadly foes. Summon forth living manifestations of Chaos, debased and hidden cultists, and the horrifying greater daemons - beings capable of destroying near everything in their path.

Posted On: 2010-02-04 12:00am

It is an age of exploration and adventure. Religious sects, political groups and wealthy merchant guilds struggle against one another to gain power, wealth and influence in the Free City-States. Meanwhile, caravans and expeditions leave daily to reclaim the shattered and deadly lands of Terrath.
MegaCon Portfolio Review

Once again, MegaCon is proud to sponsor a portfolio review booth for new artists. Writer/Editor Barbara Randall Kesel will be on hand to offer hints and tips to artists looking to develop a comics portfolio.

Portfolio review times are 12-2 and 3-5 on Friday

11-1 and 3-5 on Saturday

11-1 and 2-3 on Sunday

No appointments will be set: sessions are first come, first served, with preference given to those who have done the best prep work.

PORTFOLIO REVIEW TIPS:

PENCILERS: Companies might like your pinup drawings, but they’ll hire you based on a solid series of sequential images. If you can’t write your own script, look for a sample script online or send Barbara a script request via this site. Be sure to put SAMPLE SCRIPT REQUESTED in the subject line.

INKERS: Your technique will get you jobs, but your own penciling might not be the best art to show off your inks. Many comic artists and some companies will make pencil art samples available to you. Ink these on a vellum overlay or use a light box to transfer them to Bristol board for the best effect. Inking on regular paper diminishes the character of your ink line. Don’t be afraid to move away from markers and learn to work with a brush or a flexible nib—they’re harder to learn, but your work looks better and more professional in the long run!

COLORISTS: It’s not just about filling the page with color, but enhancing the art and the storytelling. You can add to the mood and the readability with color. Don’t just show your coloring tricks—show your ability to be an additional storyteller.

Posted On: 2010-01-08 12:00am

Any music or pre-recorded audio must be provided on AUDIO CDs ONLY. NO mp3s or any other format. ‘Burned’ CD’s are required to have only ONE track. Commercial CD’s must have the track number CLEARLY labeled along with your information so we can return it to you. The CD will be started when you are called onstage. Any cues, pauses, effects or song changes must be done on your CD. We cannot wait for your cue to start or stop the music. Remember, you have only one minute onstage, please use only one minute of audio. We cannot ‘fast forward’ to the part you require.

There will be no dress rehearsal. Feel free to practice on your own.

Equipment problems are possible, so be prepared in case of technical difficulties.

There will NOT be a microphone available. If you do not record your skit, speak LOUDLY and TO the audience, not the back or sides of the stage.

Weapons must be inspected and peace-bonded. Please see con security for this process as soon as you enter the convention center. Live steel and real weapons are not allowed! Convention rules on weapons also apply for the contest (please see your guidebook).

Do not allow weapons or props to touch the lights or any wiring. Please be careful with all props and weapons.

No swinging or throwing of any props or weapons. Parts may fly off and injure others.

No silly string, water, fake blood, confetti, fire, cigarettes, spray paint, bodily fluids or items that can make a mess. Failure to follow this rule can cause you to be BANNED from future events.

No jumping off stage. Please use the steps.

Assistance may be provided for oversized costumes, visual impairment or physical disability.

No obscene costumes, language or skits. No nudity, t-backs or stripping. This is a family show so keep it rated PG. There will be children in attendance. If you could not wear the costume or perform your skit in front of your grandmother, you shouldn’t at the contest.

Anime Sushi will assist in helping contestants get on stage if need be. If however, the costume is unable to safely get on the stage, we reserve the right to not allow it on. This does not mean the contestant is immediately disqualified.

GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION:

Please be courteous and civil at all times.

We reserve the right to disqualify any unruly or disruptive cosplayers and are not afraid to do so.

Please realize that mistakes and technical difficulties do happen. You or your character’s name may be mispronounced. Technical errors may delay the show or your entry. Audio may not work properly. You may not be able to watch the show. Please don’t become upset if this happens to you.

Please stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and bring a personal fan if your costume is hot. It may be warm backstage. Stay cool.

One entry per person, costume and group. You cannot join more than one group or appear in more than one costume.

Costumes MUST be from a JAPANESE ANIME, JAPANESE MANGA, JAPANESE BASED VIDEO GAME or J-Pop/Rock. No American Superhero, webcomic, Star Wars, Star Trek or ‘Original’ characters will be allowed. Disney costumes do not count as anime even though they appear in Kingdom Hearts. Anime Sushi is an Anime Club and is here to promote ANIME!

ALPHA was formed in 2008 by Ron Bordner and Scott Tepperman, who met in 2004 as part of a local ghost hunting group. During that time, they created the popular “Ghost Hunting 101” lecture series for several bookstore chains around Tallahassee, FL as well as for many different college campuses and universities across Florida. They have also filmed numerous T.V. specials for the BBC, PBS, UPN, and other local media outlets and have
hosted seminars and discussion panels with Brian Harnois (Ghost Hunters International) at the 2008 Wrath of Con Sci-Fi Convention & Film Festival, and attended the 1st annual TAPSCON convention as invited guests by members of the TAPS Family, where they were introduced to Jason, Grant, and the rest of the Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International teams.

In the summer of 2009, ALPHA became semi-finalists for the SyFy channel’s online “Pair-anormal” contest where they were hand picked from thousands of potential video contest entries. Later that year, ALPHA released their first commercial DVD, “Dead Air [LIVE] From the Windsor Hotel”, a documentary-style investigation of the famously haunted Windsor Hotel located in Americus, GA.

ALPHA is comprised of highly trained investigators and certified instructors on paranormal phenomena. They take pride in submitting the best evidence, conducting thorough paranormal investigations and helping to lead the way in the ghost hunting community by conducting themselves in a trustworthy, scientific and professional manner. ALPHA always uses the latest equipment available to them for their research. Additionally, they also advocate the use of experimental techniques and other non-conventional methods of investigation.

ALPHA is also dedicated to assisting people with any paranormal related issues by educating them and (in some cases) attempting to resolve their specific situation(s). They are available to speak at paranormal con-ferences, conventions, civic centers, schools, organizations and any other community event.

Welcome to the Green Fairy,

Located in the Montmartre district of Paris it is a haven for artists, writers, actors and musicians of the bohemian movement. The Green Fairy caters to the needs of bohemian revolutionaries, criminals and the morbidly curious seeking oblivion or inspiration in alchohol, absinthe, drugs and sex. Tonight as a storm rages above Paris secrets and mysteries will be revealed and with luck all Hell will break loose!

The Organized Play RPG room is presenting two Dungeons and Dragons gaming campaigns; Living Forgotten Realms and Pathfinder Society. This is the very first Florida Convention where the new Pathfinder RPG rules are going to be used.

Organized Play campaigns allow you to move a character from table to table anywhere that campaign is played and sit down with a Judge and Players and play. Your character and record of play would be recognized you would play just like any home campaign.

More info can be found at: http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/Living_Campaigns

Among the Modules We will offer are:
Living Forgotten Realms AGLA1-4 Through Twilight Boughs (Living Forgotten Realms - D&D 4e) The Tome of Twilight Boughs is a legendary book of powerful ancient Yuir rituals protected by cryptic magic. The tome, or a copy of it, has recently been found. A half-elf scholar believes he has decoded a portion of it and now invites adventurers to help verify his findings. But how exactly does one verify the contents of a book over 2,000 years old? This adventure is the second part of the Tome of Twilight Boughs major quest, which began in AGLA1-1 Lost Temple of the Fey Gods. A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Aglarond for characters levels 4-7.

Living Forgotten Realms BALD1-4 Silent Streets and Vanished Souls (Living Forgotten Realms - D&D 4e)
A distraught father has gotten no satisfaction from the city authorities of Baldur’s Gate, so he turns to sell swords in hopes of finding his lost daughter. The truth of her disappearance may reveal dark secrets from the city’s past – secrets that those on both sides of the law would.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #19: Skeleton Moon (Pathfinder Society - Pathfinder RPG) By Written by Benjamin Wenham. When Pathfinder alchemist Andrax d'Aponte contracted a mysterious wasting sickness, he set his mind to feverishly researching the disease and its cures. With the rare skeleton moon hanging in the sky above Absalom, the Decemvirate sends you to an ancient siege castle outside the city to recover d'Aponte's research notes and inquire about his involvement in recent Pathfinder deaths in Osirion. What you find, however, is a man changed by madness and paralyzed by paranoia and fear. Will you survive the night of the skeleton moon?

Pathfinder Society Scenario #24: Decline of Glory (Pathfinder Society - Pathfinder RPG) By Written by Tim Hitchcock. When the son of a famous Pathfinder gains control of his father's holdings in Taldor, the Pathfinder Society decides to build a new lodge there as a base to explore the many ruins of that crumbling empire. Unfortunately, the Taldan Phalanx has its eye on the holdings and an ancient curse has turned many of the residents into the walking dead. Can you survive the tangled web of Taldor's politics and fight off the echoes of the past or will you, too, see your glory decline?

Posted On: 2009-07-06 12:00am

Shroud of the Ancients

It is an age of exploration and adventure. Religious sects, political groups and wealthy merchant guilds struggle against one another to gain power, wealth and influence in the Free City-States. Meanwhile, caravans and expeditions leave daily to reclaim the shattered and deadly lands of Terrath. Will you band together with these brave souls on their journeys or will you strive to join the ranks of such elite groups as The Bearers of Aegis or Keepers of the Secret Flame? Or will you find your own path to greatness? Everyone has a destiny. Where will yours take you?

Finally... the wait is over. The Shroud of the Ancients Role Playing Game (SOTARPG) from Dark Tavern Press is here at Mini-MegaCon 2009. Powered by the D5 System, Shroud of the Ancients utilizes a tiered magic system for flexibility and creativity. It is a classless, levelless, skill driven rules set that doesn’t constrain your character with limitations and restrictions. The Shroud of the Ancients Role Playing Game brings to life a realistic fantasy world where heroes, armed with cold steel, quick wits and formidable magic, vie for power against the enemies of the innocent.

Join us in room 231A for free demos of the Shroud of The Ancients Role Playing Game during the following slots:

Slot 3 - Saturday 9am - 1pm
Slot 4 – Saturday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 5 – Saturday 7pm - 11pm
Slot 6 – Sunday 9a - 1pm

At our game tables, you’ll learn how quick and easy it is to make a character using SOTA LITE. Plus, you’ll get to experience the world of Terrath in two introductory adventures.

In the adventure entitled Firebrand, an outspoken local statesman makes an unusual, yet simple request; bring back his exotic pet bird that has escaped and made her nest at Dyers Peak. But when the rumors spread that it has taken flight, you may not be the only ones looking for it. Can you brave the cliffs and be the first to claim the creature or will someone get to the prize before you?

Also, in the adventure, Twist of Faith, one of the students at Warleth Academy is missing, but she's not just any student. Vittoria is the daughter of the famed Duke Deleano of Syrania. With Visitors Day scheduled for tomorrow and the Duke expected, can you help locate the missing girl before the school finds itself at the center of an international incident?

Dark Tavern Press welcomes first time players. If you have any questions about the D5 system or the Shroud of the Ancients campaign setting prior to the convention, email us at contact@sotarpg.com

The corridor is dark and dank and smells of blaster fire. Up ahead you can see a swarm of face huggers as you open up with your autocannon and motion to your fellow marines to do the same. “It’s crawling everywhere! “ You shout to your friends as you notice your buddy spraying the wall with his flame thrower. He turns to you sadly as you see several of the cocoons are occupied with former members of your squad. “They won’t make out of the cocoons alive I’m afraid.” You look up and catch an alien square in the face, his body collapsing to the ground as his acidic blood corrodes the metal floors. “Come on, let’s save who we can and purify this place from that alien spawn!” Can you make it out of the industrial complex before the Queen’s eggs hatch? Come play a Marine and find out!

If you can deliver the letter to the Spanish Authorities or spring the captain somehow he has promised to show you where the treasure is buried.
Arne in Hollywood

Arne Starr, who has been a regular at Megacon for well over a decade, left the climes of Sunny Florida for Sunny California, Hollywood to be exact, to fulfill his path of being part of showbiz. He blames it all on Star Trek of course, the comic he was mostly associated with as an artist, which in turn involved him online with the GEnie computer network, and with conventions which segued into his Hollywood gossip show, and also got him trained as an actor because of it by the late Mark Lenard (Sarek, Spock's dad) after seeing him work on stage at conventions with Bill Campbell and John de Lancie. Many plays in CT and FL later he finally went west to live the dream. Spend an hour with Arne Starr with his tales about working in Hollywood on all the films like Star Trek, Public Enemies, Angels and Demons and G-Force and Iron Man 2 and TV like Grey's Anatomy and Mad Men and more things that you watch and might or might not have seen him pass by in, and all the actors and crew he works with on a daily basis. It'll be about how things get done, anecdotes from the sets, who is cool and not so cool, and maybe even some surprises on what's yet to come...

Posted On: 2009-06-23 12:00am

The year is 2070. The world is not only Awakened -- it's wired. Cyber and bioware implants make your meat body better-than-flesh, while the wireless Matrix enhances your perceptions with hyper-real senses. Deals are made in steel and lead more often than gold or nuyen; success and failure live only a razor's edge apart. Creatures of myth and legend walk the streets, while the arcane skills of spellslingers are in high demand. Above it all, monolithic megacorps bleed the world dry, sabotaging each other in covert cutthroat competition as they go to war over the bottom line.

You're a shadowrunner, a street operative, scratching out a living on the mean sprawl streets. You may be human, elf, dwarf, ork or troll. From lethal street samurai to well-connected info brokers, spell-slinging mages or code-cracking hackers. No matter what, you're a professional --corporate pawn or "deniable asset," you get the job done.
