MegaCon 2010 Coloring Contest

This artwork has been copyrighted by TinSky Studios and Austin Janowsky 2010 and may NOT be reproduced or used for any purpose other than this coloring contest without our express permission.

Instructions

1. Print the coloring page (pdf included)or your can pick it up at the Information Booth in front of Hall D.
2. Color the picture.
3. Fill out the entry form (if not done before printing) and attach it securely to the back of the artwork.
4. Drop if back off at either the Information Booth in front of Hall D or at Purple table # 1 in Artist Alley.

Rules

1. Any medium (crayons, markers, paints, etc) may be used to color the picture. (Not provided)
2. All entries must be turned in by 2pm Saturday March 13, 2010.
3. Only ONE entry per contestant will be accepted.
4. The Three age brackets to be judged will be ages 0 - 5, ages 6 - 11, ages 12 � 16.
5. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded in each age bracket.
6. The winners will be picked by a panel of judges selected by TinSky Studios and Stanley the Snowman Creators Austin Janowsky & Cayce Moyer.
7. The winner�s first name, last initial, city, state and country will be posted on our website along with a picture of the winning artwork. http://www.austinjanowsky.com/projects.asp.
8. By submitting an entry to this contest, you are agreeing to allow TinSky Studios the right to feature it in their advertising and on their website at their discretion.

Prizes

1. Three prizes will be awarded in each age bracket.
2. In addition to the winning entries selected by our judges, we will also randomly select ONE entry from each age bracket to receive a "participation" prize.
3. The prizes for this contest will be gift certificates and comic related material.
4. All prizes are final and may not be exchanged.
5. All prizes will be given out to winners at the show.

Candle Light Press MegaCon 2010 Exclusive

Class Descriptions:

Basing Models: Preparing a custom base. Deciding a theme, selecting materials, building the base and mounting the figure.

Basic Painting: This course covers basic techniques to give your models definition and �pop� on the table. If you don�t like how your models look, this is a great place to start.

Faces and Skin: Basics of how to make skin look life-like on a model.

Intermediate Methods: If you�ve tried drybrushing and inking your models and you�d like to do more, this class will help you move to the next level. Covers layering, glazing, and other techniques.

Customization for Beginners: An introduction to how to do weapon swaps and other techniques to modify your miniatures.

Color Theory: Learn the basics of mixing your own colors, bringing depth to colors and how light moves in the real world.

Making Terrain: Learn about the different types of terrain. Get a chance to make some of your own to take home.

Warlord I: Paint It and Play It: Paint the miniature of your choice, choose your team, and run through an epic bar brawl.

Warlord II: Vampire Scourge! Play valiant defenders or evil monsters in this battle to decide the fate of a town. Will it be saved or sacked?

Selections made for Megacon 2010 Indie Film Expo

A number of cutting-edge award-winning independent films have been selected for presentation at this year's Megacon. Megacon's Indie Film Expo showcases cutting-edge short independent films in the genres of action, animation, anime, comedy, super-heroes, science fiction, suspense, and horror. As part of Megacon's "Indie Film Expo" program, a panel discussion on filmmaking will be hosted by "Students of the Unusual" publisher Terry Cronin on Saturday March 13th. This will feature guest filmmakers and actors including guests Katharine Leis, Gary Dejidas, Pat Martin, Brian Pulido, Steven Shea, Todd Thompson, and Bill Williams(FMPTA). Other surprise celebrity guests and filmmakers are expected. Cronin will also be showing a sneak-peek of their new competitive cooking show Adventure Chefs at Megacon. Cronin relates that "this is a unique opportunity to meet and discuss independent filmmaking with the filmmakers themselves."

Dark Legacy

Kids Events At MegaCon Just Got Bigger

Skiffytown League of Heroes will be setting up their Headquarters on the main showroom floor. Please check the floor plan for the location. Come down and join them for the following events.

Imagine a Costume for Kids - Did you ever want to be a superhero? Come join Skiffytown League of Heroes and make a costume out of the scrapes and treasures provided? We�ll help you create your very own hero with anything we have and loads of imagination. You will walk away with something from your very own imagination; join the ranks of superheroes by creating your own. There will also be an area for face painting. Parents, its good clean fun, and besides, the world needs more superheroes. This event will take place all three days on the showroom floor � Check the showroom floor for exact hours.

Kids Costume Contest - Skiffytown League of Heroes will be hosting a kids costume contest, if you have a homemade costume, please come by and sign up, join in the merriment and just have fun. Sign up will be on the showroom floor.

Skiffy Story Time - Skiffytown will host a kids and kids at heart story time with the heroes, come and take a break from the craziness and sit down for a few minutes and enjoy old time stories about heroes, villains, and storylines. We will have the time posted, so come on by. Story times will be posted on the showroom floor in the Skiffytown League of Heroes station.

Skiffy Safety - Every good superhero and super kid needs to know about safety and how to be safe. Learn from the Skiffytown League of Superheroes about the rules of the road. Ask questions, as the saying goes, the more you know. So please drop on by to see what time it will be at. Skiffy Safety times will be posted on the showroom floor in the Skiffytown League of Heroes station.

The conclusion to the epic return of King Arthur is at hand as the events from issue two reach their fiery climax. On a post apocalyptic battlefield Arthur is forced to draw Excalibur once again to rescue his people and prove that he is truly "the once and future king". This issue concludes the story from issue two but sets in motion events that will resonate into the rest of the series.

In celebration of the first year anniversary of Cosmic Times, an exclusive MegaCon edition will be released for the show. This is the series that David O�Leary of Comic Related called "an epic book in the true sense of the word". All three issues will be available in the Independent Press Section at Table #11 during the convention.

Marvel is doing portfolio reviews at Megacon

George Beliard, Manager Talent Relations of Marvel Entertainment will be doing Portfolio reviews at MegaCon Marvel Entertainment, Inc., one of the world's most prominent character-based entertainment companies with a library of over 5,000 proprietary characters, will be reviewing portfolios of artists for potential future work at the House of Ideas.

All creators interested in having their portfolio reviewed should bring copies of their artwork (no originals) to Booth numbers 537-636 (Booth of Authenticity) by 5 pm on Friday for a Saturday review and by 5pm on Saturday for a Sunday review.

After reviewing the samples at the end of each day, we will display the list of creators we would like to review at Booths 537-636 on Saturday morning, March 13th (for Friday drop-offs) and Sunday morning March 14th (for Saturday drop-offs). This list will include the names of the creators we are interested in meeting with and the time and location we will meet them.

You should be prepared to leave behind the following at Booths 537 � 636 for pre-screening review:

Jacksonville Garrison Saturday Board Games

Space Alert

It's a cooperative team survival game. Players become crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of galaxy. The missions last just 10 real-time minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship. On 2 CDs (or Scenario cards if you don't have a CD player available) are ten minute long soundtracks that represent central computer announcements about the presence of various threats. These vary from space battleships and interceptors to different interstellar monsters and abominations, asteroids or even intruders and malfunctions on the spaceship. Players have to agree who will take care of which task and coordinate their actions (moving around the ship, firing weapons, distributing energy, using battlebots to deal with intruders, launching guided missiles, etc.) in real time to defend the ship. Only a well-working team can survive 10 minutes and make the jump back to safety.

BattleLore

The world of BattleLore meshes history and fantasy together - putting players in command of an array of miniature troops on the battlefields of a Medieval Europe Uchronia at the outset of the Hundred Years War. In this fantastical re-imagining of the Hundred Years War, French and English armies are supplemented with Goblins and Dwarves mercenaries and even some creatures like Giant Spider and Earth Elemental! Just as important as the armies you have, though, are the Lore Masters you choose to aid you: Wizards, Clerics, Warriors and Rogues can all aid you with unique powers and spells in ways role-playing gamers will find familiar.

Capital Ship Combat

Sci-Fi-Supply, in conjunction with CON-Troll, presents the Capital Ship Combat game featuring scratch built Star Wars models. You will either be part of a Rebel Alliance task force or an Imperial Interdiction squadron. You and your teammates will command fighters, escorts and huge capital ships including frigates, cruisers and Stardestroyers! The escort and capital ships used in this game are all hand-made models based on the famous Star Wars® ships. The starfighters are Micromachines&tm; generously donated by Hasbro/Galoob years ago.

PORTFOLIO REVIEW TIPS:

PENCILERS: Companies might like your pinup drawings, but they�ll hire you based on a solid series of sequential images. If you can�t write your own script, look for a sample script online or send Barbara a script request via this site. Be sure to put SAMPLE SCRIPT REQUESTED in the subject line.

INKERS: Your technique will get you jobs, but your own penciling might not be the best art to show off your inks. Many comic artists and some companies will make pencil art samples available to you. Ink these on a vellum overlay or use a light box to transfer them to Bristol board for the best effect. Inking on regular paper diminishes the character of your ink line. Don�t be afraid to move away from markers and learn to work with a brush or a flexible nib�they�re harder to learn, but your work looks better and more professional in the long run!

COLORISTS: It�s not just about filling the page with color, but enhancing the art and the storytelling. You can add to the mood and the readability with color. Don�t just show your coloring tricks�show your ability to be an additional storyteller.

ON-STAGE RULES:

You are allowed ONE (1) minute on stage. �Do not go over one minute or you may be disqualified. �(Do not ask for more time)
If you are not performing a skit, please take about 10 seconds to pose for photos.
You may also pose for photos for a few moments after a skit.
Skits are NOT required. �You may just walk onstage and pose for photographs. �Bad skits, inside jokes, or poor performances may actually disqualify you from some awards. �If you do not think you can perform a skit everyone will enjoy, please just pose for photos.
All COSTUME judging is done before the show.
Any music or pre-recorded audio must be provided on AUDIO CDs ONLY. �NO mp3s or any other format. ��Burned� CD�s are required to have only ONE track. �Commercial CD�s must have the track number CLEARLY labeled along with your information so we can return it to you. �The CD will be started when you are called onstage. �Any cues, pauses, effects or song changes must be done on your CD. �We cannot wait for your cue to start or stop the music. �Remember, you have only one minute onstage, please use only one minute of audio. �We cannot �fast forward� to the part you require.
There will be no dress rehearsal. �Feel free to practice on your own.
Equipment problems are possible, so be prepared in case of technical difficulties.
There will NOT be a microphone available. �If you do not record your skit, speak LOUDLY and TO the audience, not the back or sides of the stage.
Weapons must be inspected and peace-bonded. �Please see con security for this process as soon as you enter the convention center. �Live steel and real weapons are not allowed! �Convention rules on weapons also apply for the contest (please see your guidebook).
Do not allow weapons or props to touch the lights or any wiring. �Please be careful with all props and weapons.
No swinging or throwing of any props or weapons. �Parts may fly off and injure others.
No silly string, water, fake blood, confetti, fire, cigarettes, spray paint, bodily fluids or items that can make a mess. �Failure to follow this rule can cause you to be BANNED from future events.
No jumping off stage. �Please use the steps.
Assistance may be provided for oversized costumes, visual impairment or physical disability.
No obscene costumes, language or skits. �No nudity, t-backs or stripping. This is a family show so keep it rated PG. �There will be children in attendance. �If you could not wear the costume or perform your skit in front of your grandmother, you shouldn�t at the contest.
Anime Sushi will assist in helping contestants get on stage if need be. If however, the costume is unable to safely get on the stage, we reserve the right to not allow it on. This does not mean the contestant is immediately disqualified.

Back by popular the demand the Alpha Ghost Team

ALPHA was formed in 2008 by Ron Bordner and Scott Tepperman, who met in 2004 as part of a local ghost hunting group. During that time, they created the popular �Ghost Hunting 101� lecture series for several bookstore chains around Tallahassee, FL as well as for many different college campuses and universities across Florida. They have also filmed numerous T.V. specials for the BBC, PBS, UPN, and other local media outlets and have hosted seminars and discussion panels with Brian Harnois (Ghost Hunters International) at the 2008 Wrath of Con Sci-Fi Convention & Film Festival, and attended the 1st annual TAPSCON convention as invited guests by members of the TAPS Family, where they were introduced to Jason, Grant, and the rest of the Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International teams.

In the summer of 2009, ALPHA became semi-finalists for the SyFy channel�s online �Pair-anormal� contest where they were hand picked from thousands of potential video contest entries. Later that year, ALPHA released their first commercial DVD, �Dead Air [LIVE] From the Windsor Hotel�, a documentary-style investigation of the famously haunted Windsor Hotel located in Americus, GA.

ALPHA is comprised of highly trained investigators and certified instructors on paranormal phenomena. They take pride in submitting the best evidence, conducting thorough paranormal investigations and helping to lead the way in the ghost hunting community by conducting themselves in a trustworthy, scientific and professional manner. ALPHA always uses the latest equipment available to them for their research. Additionally, they also advocate the use of experimental techniques and other non-conventional methods of investigation.

Kids Events

Skiffytown League of Heroes will be setting up their Headquarters on the main showroom floor. Please check the floor plan for the location. Come down and join them for the following events.

Imagine a Costume for Kids - Did you ever want to be a superhero? Come join Skiffytown League of Heroes and make a costume out of the scrapes and treasures provided? We�ll help you create your very own hero with anything we have and loads of imagination. You will walk away with something from your very own imagination; join the ranks of superheroes by creating your own. There will also be an area for face painting. Parents, its good clean fun, and besides, the world needs more superheroes. This event will take place all three days on the showroom floor � Check the showroom floor for exact hours.

Skiffy Story Time - Skiffytown will host a kids and kids at heart story time with the heroes, come and take a break from the craziness and sit down for a few minutes and enjoy old time stories about heroes, villains, and storylines. We will have the time posted, so come on by. Story times will be posted on the showroom floor in the Skiffytown League of Heroes station.

Skiffy Safety - Every good superhero and super kid needs to know about safety and how to be safe. Learn from the Skiffytown League of Superheroes about the rules of the road. Ask questions, as the saying goes, the more you know. So please drop on by to see what time it will be at. Skiffy Safety times will be posted on the showroom floor in the Skiffytown League of Heroes station.

Skiffytown League of Heroes Presents an Old Time Radio Story - Join Skiffytown as they battle villains, use your imagination and join in the fight against the forces of evil. Old time radio was the high def of yesteryear, you�ll be surprised at the fun you can have.

Mini-Megacon's Indie Expo set for excitement!

Every year Megacon's Indie Film Expo showcases cutting-edge short independent films in the genres of action, animation, anime, comedy, super-heroes, science fiction, suspense, and horror. With "Mini-Megacon" about to occur on August 22-23rd, a number of films have been selected for presentation which include some of the best films from prior Megacon's and newer cutting edge entries.

Mini 40K Tournament

Mini 40K Tournament - 500 pts, Limited to 24 players

4 rounds will be held on Saturday in the Main Hall gaming area.

Main Hall doors open at 10:00 AM with first round starting at 10:15 AM.

A break for lunch will be after the first round.

The final round will be the top 4 players facing off against each other.

Players need a Warhammer 40,000 army totaling 500pts or less of any army faction they choose that is approved for use under 5th Edition rules. Army lists must not exceed 500pts and must adhere to normal force organization rules--any applications submitted that do not meet these basic rules will not be accepted. It is recommended that players bring their own dice, measuring tape or ruler and a copy of both the 5th Edition Main Rulebook. All players must have the latest version of their chosen arm�s codex and all models must be �what you see is what you get� but do not have to be painted.

There will be some �loaner� armies available day-of if you wish to participate but do not have an army available to bring. If you intend to use these armies please show up early to claim one, as these will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Living Forgotten Realms and Pathfinder Society

The Organized Play RPG room is presenting two Dungeons and Dragons gaming campaigns; Living Forgotten Realms and Pathfinder Society. This is the very first Florida Convention where the new Pathfinder RPG rules are going to be used.

Organized Play campaigns allow you to move a character from table to table anywhere that campaign is played and sit down with a Judge and Players and play. Your character and record of play would be recognized you would play just like any home campaign.

Aliens

The corridor is dark and dank and smells of blaster fire. Up ahead you can see a swarm of face huggers as you open up with your autocannon and motion to your fellow marines to do the same. �It�s crawling everywhere! � You shout to your friends as you notice your buddy spraying the wall with his flame thrower. He turns to you sadly as you see several of the cocoons are occupied with former members of your squad. �They won�t make out of the cocoons alive I�m afraid.� You look up and catch an alien square in the face, his body collapsing to the ground as his acidic blood corrodes the metal floors. �Come on, let�s save who we can and purify this place from that alien spawn!� Can you make it out of the industrial complex before the Queen�s eggs hatch? Letter of Marque

Your band of privateers have been hired to carry a letter of Marque and Reprisal from the Governor of Port Royal to Tortuga to your captain currently being held prisoner by the Spanish. If you make it in time there will be plunder to share for all as the captain and a team of men have hidden your latest prize somewhere in an inlet near Tortuga. If you can deliver the letter to the Spanish Authorities or spring the captain somehow he has promised to show you where the treasure is buried. Arne in Hollywood

Arne Starr, who has been a regular at Megacon for well over a decade, left the climes of Sunny Florida for Sunny California, Hollywood to be exact, to fulfill his path of being part of showbiz. He blames it all on Star Trek of course, the comic he was mostly associated with as an artist, which in turn involved him online with the GEnie computer network, and with conventions which segued into his Hollywood gossip show, and also got him trained as an actor because of it by the late Mark Lenard (Sarek, Spock's dad) after seeing him work on stage at conventions with Bill Campbell and John de Lancie. Many plays in CT and FL later he finally went west to live the dream. Spend an hour with Arne Starr with his tales about working in Hollywood on all the films like Star Trek, Public Enemies, Angels and Demons and G-Force and Iron Man 2 and TV like Grey's Anatomy and Mad Men and more things that you watch and might or might not have seen him pass by in, and all the actors and crew he works with on a daily basis. It'll be about how things get done, anecdotes from the sets, who is cool and not so cool, and maybe even some surprises on what's yet to come...

Writing for Independent Film and Comics

Terry Cronin co-founder and program chairman for the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival and founder of 3 Boys Productions, will provide the basics of screenwriting for independent film and offer hints on how to successfully make an independent film. Terry is also the creator and publisher of the comic horror adventure series, Students of the Unusual, and he will provide the basics of creative writing for comic books and offer hints in how to successfully publish an independent comic.

"Hot Wheels Race Rally": A fun Hot Wheels Racing Rally for all ages (but kids under 12 MUST have a guardian's permission to participate.) Bring your own Hot Wheels, Matchbox and/or Johnny Lightening cars and race against others down the chute, through the loop and over the jump to take the checkered flag! Cars provided for those who don't have any of their own to race with. An idividual race (heat) only takes a minute to complete. You can race between other events! There will also be a special "Kids Only" track set up for the little ones to play with!

Phoenicia will be teaching basic belly dancing moves for fun and exercise. The class will start with a short warm-up, and then cover some isolations, travel steps, and simple turns. Comfortable clothing and shoes will enhance the experience but everyone is welcome.
