  • Be ready by 4:15pm Saturday, W224, all children first inline.

HERE’S ALL THE DETAILS AND RULES:

  • NO COMMISSIONED COSTUMES.  This means you cannot pay someone to make your costume or enter a store-bought costume.  This includes professionally made costumes or costume parts purchased from costume stores, online or Hot Topic.  Your family and friends can help you make one, but please let us know at judging.  There is a difference.
  • To enter Anime Sushi’s Costume Contest you must fill out a registration form AND be a convention attendee to enter.
  • Registration forms will be available Friday March 12th 1pm to 6 pm and on Saturday March 13th 10am to 11am.
  • Absolutely no entries will be accepted after 11:00am.
  • You may also Pre-register on-line from January 15, 2010 until Feb. 28, 2010. On-line registrants will be first in line for pre-judging.  Registration links will be available at www.animesushi.com on or around January 15, 2010.
  • You will receive an entry number, please remember it and do not lose it.  This will be used to determine your judging and stage order.
  • If you have any questions, please see us at 10:30am before prejudging in room W224.
  • You must attend BOTH prejudging AND appear on stage to qualify for an award.
  • Prejudging begins at 11:00 AM in room W224 on Saturday.  Online pre-registered contestants will be judged first, please arrive by 10:45am.  Latecomers will be moved to back of line.
  • You must be registered and in costume at time of prejudging.
  • Please provide REFERENCE MATERIAL at prejudging.  Our judges must be able to compare your costume to the original in order to judge detail and accuracy.  Examples include art books, printouts, screenshots, game manuals or CD covers.  Original artwork is NOT a reference material.  Please provide an image that is the same version/variation that you are entering.  Reference materials are VERY IMPORTANT to your score.
  • Children age 13 and under will be judged separately.  Children in skits with adults must decide if they wish to be judged as a child or in a group.  Please mark the entry form before prejudging with this information.
  • Registration ends 11:00am on Saturday.  No exceptions. Traffic is always difficult Saturday morning and will not be allowed as an excuse. Allow for extra time.
  • The contest starts at 4:30pm on Saturday in rooms W224.  Please be ready to line up at 4:15pm.  Children 13 and under will go on stage first, followed by their awards, then the other contestants.

ON-STAGE RULES:

  • You are allowed ONE (1) minute on stage.  Do not go over one minute or you may be disqualified.  (Do not ask for more time)
  • If you are not performing a skit, please take about 10 seconds to pose for photos.
  • You may also pose for photos for a few moments after a skit.
  • Skits are NOT required.  You may just walk onstage and pose for photographs.  Bad skits, inside jokes, or poor performances may actually disqualify you from some awards.  If you do not think you can perform a skit everyone will enjoy, please just pose for photos.
  • All COSTUME judging is done before the show.
  • Any music or pre-recorded audio must be provided on AUDIO CDs ONLY.  NO mp3s or any other format.  ‘Burned’ CD’s are required to have only ONE track.  Commercial CD’s must have the track number CLEARLY labeled along with your information so we can return it to you.  The CD will be started when you are called onstage.  Any cues, pauses, effects or song changes must be done on your CD.  We cannot wait for your cue to start or stop the music.  Remember, you have only one minute onstage, please use only one minute of audio.  We cannot ‘fast forward’ to the part you require.
  • There will be no dress rehearsal.  Feel free to practice on your own.
  • Equipment problems are possible, so be prepared in case of technical difficulties.
  • There will NOT be a microphone available.  If you do not record your skit, speak LOUDLY and TO the audience, not the back or sides of the stage.
  • Weapons must be inspected and peace-bonded.  Please see con security for this process as soon as you enter the convention center.  Live steel and real weapons are not allowed!  Convention rules on weapons also apply for the contest (please see your guidebook).
  • Do not allow weapons or props to touch the lights or any wiring.  Please be careful with all props and weapons.
  • No swinging or throwing of any props or weapons.  Parts may fly off and injure others.
  • No silly string, water, fake blood, confetti, fire, cigarettes, spray paint, bodily fluids or items that can make a mess.  Failure to follow this rule can cause you to be BANNED from future events.
  • No jumping off stage.  Please use the steps.
  • Assistance may be provided for oversized costumes, visual impairment or physical disability.
  • No obscene costumes, language or skits.  No nudity, t-backs or stripping. This is a family show so keep it rated PG.  There will be children in attendance.  If you could not wear the costume or perform your skit in front of your grandmother, you shouldn’t at the contest.
  • Anime Sushi will assist in helping contestants get on stage if need be. If however, the costume is unable to safely get on the stage, we reserve the right to not allow it on. This does not mean the contestant is immediately disqualified.

GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION:

  • Please be courteous and civil at all times.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify any unruly or disruptive cosplayers and are not afraid to do so.
  • Please realize that mistakes and technical difficulties do happen.  You or your character’s name may be mispronounced.  Technical errors may delay the show or your entry.  Audio may not work properly.  You may not be able to watch the show.  Please don’t become upset if this happens to you.
